PALMERSTON PAINTERS' AGREEMENT
—: —9 _ Tho Conciliation Commissioner (Mr. W. Newton) returned to Wellington from the north yesterday. He stated that at the Pftlmerstou North sittings a complete agreement had been arrived at between tho. Falnierstou North Painters' Union and the employers in the painting trade in thd Manawatu diatriei. The rates of wages had been fixed at Is. 7Jd. per hour, with a bonus of 2|d. per hour, the bonus to apply "to competent men only," The overtime rato had been increased from, time and a quarter to timo and n hall, and slight increases in pay had been granted apprentices. It had been deoided that tho agreement should operate from May 2'fast. Other conditions ,had been left as they were under tho old award.
