HAS IT COME TO STAY? . ■It is understood that the public will never be able to travel so freely and without question from New Zealand as has been the ease in the past. Although sis months have elapsed since hostilities ceased the , passport systemis still in operation in New Zealand, and all wishing to travel beyond our shores have still to satisfy, the officials of tho passport branch of. tbo Internal. Affairs. Department that there is no juet cause or impediment why thev should not bo allowed so to depart. This has been foupd to be the case by quite a number of surprised and indignant persons, whose applications for passports hare had to be refused. As is pretty well known people have always had to be armed with passports in order to be able to travel about Europe. The war lias taught England that there is some virtue in the custom, and.'ttliough nothing is definitely known hero yef, there are those who believe that the passport system lias come to stay. ,
