NOTES FROM VARIOUS CENTRES MANAWATD The golf season at Levin is now under way. At the opening day the Mayor (Mr. Matheson) stated that he was sure the Domain Board would support any (steps taken to improve (ho grounds. Twelve " ladies competed in the approaching and putting competition, tho beet scores being: Miss Beckett, 0; Mrs. Clark, 9; Mrs. M'Kenzie, !); Mrs. Nickle, 10; Miss Kinloch, 10; and Miss N. Beckett, 10. in the men's competition, three balls from 7;' i yards, the best scores were: W. Clark, 11; H. Porter, 12; J. Hughes, 12; and J. Pollock, 13. At a meeting of the Lako Domain Board at Levin this week, over which Mr. Blenkhorn presided, it was reported that the new boatshed was completed, and the hope was expressed that the Beating Club would be revived rnd take charge of the shed and boats. It is. probable that a meeting will bo held at an early date with this object in view. The 'Falmerston North Boy (-Voids were inspected on (he Show Grounds this week by Lieut.-Colonol D. Cosgrovo, Y.D., Dominion Chief Commissioner. The lads were drawn up at the Show Grounds under District Commander R. W. Browning, and the state of the parade was 108 scouts and nve officers. Opportunity was taken by the lieiit.-colonel to present a flag to No. 1 Troop on behalf of Lieutenant and Mrs. Slipper and Assistant-Scoutmaster Slipimr. At. a subsequent gathering tho CMef Commissioner remarked that when he visited the local Boy Scouts two years ago they were not more' than 35 strong, whereas 1 bey were now over 120. In the Magistrate's Court at Palmerston this week John Williams, against whom there were 2fi previous convictions, was sentenced to one month's imprisonment on a i charge of having obtained two blankets and one shirt, valued at 375., , from W. 11. Gunning, storekeeper, Shannon, by means of false pretences. After obtaining the t,oods ,Ihr> accused Imd pawned them for 15s. to E. W. A. Osborne, second-hand dealer, Shannon. Staff-Nurse E. M. Lewis, formerly district nurse at Otaki, who has twice been on active service, is due back by the Tofua, which is expected at Port Chalmers on May 27.

Mr. E Smith's orchestra supplied tho dance music and Mr. Glynn was M.C.
