THE MINING DISPUTE
Delegates of the New Zealand Miners' Federation have met in Welliugton recently and they have prepared demands for improved conditions of employment,including increased pay. These-demands havo not yet been brought forward in an official way ■■
Negotiations are proceeding with reference to tho Green Island dispute. Tho point immediately under discussion is tho roquest of the men for a conference with tne employers.
Some weeks ago the Coal Mine Owners' Association wrote to the Miners' Federation drawing attention to the repeated stoppage at tho mines, in violation of tho existing agreement, which provides that all disputes shall be referred to disputes committees. The secretary of the federation replied that the matter would bo considered, and an official reply sent later. This reply lias not yet been received. GBEEN ISLAND. OWNERS AGREE TO A CONFERENCE. Dunedin, May 21, At the suggestion of tho Ne\i Zealand Coal Mine Owners' Association, the proprietors of tho Greoii Isbjtid collerics Lave agreed to meet the miners in conference. The miners stood out for a conference all through the trouble. The oonforence will srobably be held on Tuesday.
