[By Glenooe.] The autumn meeting of the Poverty Bav Turf Club will be held to-day. The first event will start at noon. The Hororata meeting takes place today. Oxenhope was lame- sifter galloping at Eiccarton on Tuesday morning, and ho may, have to be spelled. Tho attempt to get Maro Anthony through another preparation is not proving • very satisfactory. He was lame after working a few days ago, and lie has since been an absentee from the Piiccirton track. Locally, Dusky Eve is a firm order for the Hawke's Bay Cup to be run on Wednesday next. His admirers point out that he has only got the same weight as he carried in'the Wanganui Stakes, and he wus unlucky to be beaten in that race. Aurore, winner of the-Jumpers'.Flat at Gisborne, is in the Mangatararta Hurdles at Hastings on Wednesday with tho minimum impost. Aurora was bred at Karamu, and a few years ago was a hot favourite for the Winter Cup. The Treutham trainer J. W. Lowe is taking Mcnelaus and Cooing to the Hastings meeting. ' Both horses are very well, and are expected to race prominently next week. The aged gelding Peary, -n ho used to carry the late Hon. J.,D. Ormond's colours in. steeplechases,, was a runner in the Southland Steeplechase on Wednesday. The old fellow has lost all his paoe, but he.got round safely, and took third money.
When Chappal .Moh fell in the Southland Steeplechase his lider J. Wallis was unfortunate enough to break his thigh., Chappal Moh broke his neck. The victory of Star Lady in the Uangitikei Cup has earned her a penalty of 31b. for the Hawko's Bay Cup. Her weight is now 7st. 81b.
The New Zealand-bred Silent Way, who has been a failure on the flat sinco ho won last year's Newcastle Cup, was sent to Melbourne recently, lie is to bo raced by Mr. L. Stewart, and, according to present intentions, will be given an opportunity of distinguishing himself over the hurdles.
Last year a couple of big stables wero destroyed by fire in America, and three days prior to the ..pening rf racing in New Orleans on January 1 of this year the grandstand and edmir.istration offices were burnt down at tho Fair Grounds, tho damage being estimated at nearly .£40,000, partly covered by insurance. The grandstand was 122 yards long mid 'JO yards wide. The fire was scarcely out before an army of carpenters was at work on a temporary structure, which, though rough, was ready by New "i ear's Day.
At the recent Victorian sale of yearlings seven Tho Welkin youngsters averaged just under 'laOgns. A Melbourne writer eays that at ono timo Victorians were good buyers in tho Now Zealand market, but tho order of tliinps has changed of late years, and now the New Zcalandors buy in tho Victorian market.

It behoves horse-owners to see that this money is not entirely spent for the benefit of motorists, as if so the roads will be rendered so slippery that horse traffic ■will be impossible and horse-breeding will be ruined. There is no timo to lose,"
"Wager" in informed that M. Blanc's Aiax defeated Pretty Polly in the Grand Prix in 190-1. The last Winter Cup carried 1200 sovs. as stake money.
