MAN KILLED NEAR.TAUMARUNUI. • . By Telegraph—Press Association " Taumarunui, February 17. ■ An accident occurred at Matapuna, near Tau'uurunui, on Sunday. A man, George Scrimshaw, wns riding a ljgrse when it stumbled, and the rider was thrown over tho horse's head and rendered unconscious. He was taken to the hospital. He did not regain consciousness, and succumbed to his injuries this morning. He leaves a wife and child. The wifo resides in Wellington. At an inquest a verdict was returned that deceased met his death as a result of accidentally falling from a horse.

Percy Nicholls, 13 years of age, only son of Mr. Jesse Nicholls, Milton, was drowned this evening while swimming in ■ a deep pool. He got into difficulties, and a companion who went to his assistance narrowly escaped being dragged down by Nicholls, whose- body was recovered twenty minutes Inter.

ACCIDENT NEAR MARTONv,: ; By Telegraph.—Special' Correspondent.. Marton, February 17. ; An elderly man,: Robert Andrews, met with a distressing accident at the homestead of Mr. E. C. Gaisi'ord, of Bulls, on he Turakina Roa<l yesterday. Sir. Andrews, who wtis employed by Ml\ Winter, a contractor, of Levin, wis in the act of removing a traction engine from the homestead, and after turning on the steam started a flywheel. He was immediately drawn in, and got caught in the machinery, the result being that his neck was dislocated and his right side badly mangled. The man at the steering-wheel, noticing that something had gone wrong stopped the engine to make investigation, and discovered the dead body of Andrews. Death must have been instantaneous. Deceased leaves a grown-up family.
