Heavy-weight Handicap, ten miles — White/.Christchurch, 1; Crawley, Carterlon, 2; Coleman, Palmerston - North, 3. Time. lOmin. 5 3-ssec. South Island Middle-weight. Championship ten miles.—Haworth, Christchurch, 1; G. M.oft'att, Christchurch, 2; .1. Dawber, Palmerstnn North, 3. Won easily in lOmin. 14 4-sscc. Australasian Heavy-weight Championship, fifteen miles.—ll. R. Crawley, Carterton, 1; L. Maugham , Oiaki, 2; W. Clnringhold. Howera, 3. Also started: Hinds, Souter, and Brosnas, all of Christchurch. Won by a quarter of a mile. Time, Hnnn. 12sec. Tourist Handicap, five miles.—Barnfield, Wellington, 1; Barrel, Christchurch, 2; Mallard, Christchurch, 3. Time, Smin. 2(! 3-, r >3oc. A feature event of the day _ created keen interest. Ray Crawley, winner of the Australasian heavy-weight championship, took the field with his seven-horse-power Hnrley-Davidson against J. Mercer in a 100-horse-power aeroplane. The course was over five miles, each competitor taking a flying start. Mercer followed the line of the track at a height of about 500 feet. Crawley won by about fifty yards.
