It is stated in Ohristchurch that in spite of the reduction in freight rates and tho lessened consumption for war purposes, kcrosono is likely to advance in prico in the near future. Inquiries. made from • retallorfl showed that as far as the bigger flrmo.in the city are .concerned, no advanco In price haa been made, though it is■ understood that, some of tho smaller storekeepers havo taken • action, prices being increased by 6d. per tin or Is. per case. ,
• Two of the ■ leading retail grocers in Chriotchcrch stated that thoy knew nothlnf- about the projected advance, but a third stated that the wholesale merchant? hnd communicated with the retailers advising them Ihnt the wholCEalo price would in all probability be advanced as from . to-day. It is understood that tho advance is not duo to any action on tha'pnrt of the wholesale suuplicrs. but to i the oil distributors, the wlloleaale merchants merely pasfiiug on the increase. /The Board of Trade recontly took action /and fixed the price of petTol, but no action was taken as regards kerosene, which is therefore uncontrolled.
