ALLEGED THREAT TO KILL
BOX OF CHOCOLATES SOAKED IN NITRIC ACID. Mr. F. V. Frazei) S.M.,' had before him on Saturday, in the Magistrate's Court, Richard William Martin, who was charged thj.t on or about February 5, at Wellington, lie 6eut a letter containing threats to kill a certain Alexander Collins. Mr. V. B. Willis appoarcd for accused, and said that Martin, had been about 23 years in Wellington, vne last nine of that period in tno'employ of fne firm. ■ The; complainant and the accused wero friends, and lie • suggested that if a remand was to be asked for bail should be allowed. Detective Cox said that Ihe accr.sed and Collins were employed by the same firm. Collins received sevsral leri'TS, and the last one ftated fcliftt en Feb: uary 13 something would happen, and something did happen, for Collins received a box of chocolates saturated with nitric acid. A bottle of nitric aeid was found in the accused's room. Continuing, the detective said that the charge, was a serious one, and bail, should not be allowed, or if allowed the amount should be substantial. Mr. Willis said that it would be proved that the letters received by Collins were not in the handwriting-of the accused. Bail was fixed at and one surety <of .£IOO, or two of .£SO each.
