Henderson, Director-General of'; Medical Services,: paid ,a.' visit .'to-the hospital-that is being' erected for. the treatment'of consumptive ; soldiers at Waipukurau, ; The patients are to be: accommodated ' m open-air ; shelters,. and 'the .erection of these has-not yet commenced,; biit progress'- is being made with the. erection, of the .administrative-block, and': the ■quarters of the medical •superintendent, .nurses,' and orderlies. A large social hall -is to.be erected by the Y.M.0.A., and a workshop is to be provided by the Red-Cross.;''■■:'':!..':/;•,.'.. The site.of this.hospital, about four miles west of Waipukurau, is i con-,i sidered eminently, suitable for its purpose. Tlie hospital will stand , on a hill. slope,.-facing the..sun, and: the;river on .three .sides as a natural' boundary. The grounds cover an area of several hundred r.cres, and they are. being -cultivated already. . Vegetables; are .being raised, a dairy, herd has been established, and an apiary is approaching the productive stage. There is to be acDommodation for 100 men, and it.wi l be.easy to provide forSO or 40 more if necessary. . ,:" ' ■' .' ... The, Director-General of'Medical,Services states that the military. annexe tp the Cashmere Hills Sanatorium, nt Cliristchurcli, will be ready for-use in about three'months' time.
