HUTT VALLEY NOTES
The coal shortage is being severely felt in the Hutt and Petono. Local dealers have been without coal for three weeks. The Pctone Borough Council have been, supplying the valley, people as far away as tho TJrtppr Hutt. taking coal from the borough rVpnt . The consumption of gas is about 98.000 ft. per 24 hours, arrl the. stpeks-of coal- in hand being about three weeks' supply, the position is giving the officials some concern. ' The Gear Company are sotting into fiill swing this week, the daily avo.rapre killing being about three thousand. A big kill is predicted fov. next week. The secretary, of the Peace Demonstration Committee (Mr. Hartley)- rcnorts that matters are well forward. 1 Several donations have come in. Two • substantial arches are being pot ready for Jackson Street. A swimming; carnival, and, sports., on-a largo scale, are. being arranged',for. ;...'.'.' -.1 "■'"' ■•" ';. Tho.crops in the valley are looking splendid, if somewhat. , late. Early crops of strawberries are\ very heavy.
