Eeaboiiy and Co. adviso that a cablegram • they have ' received from New York, dated January 7, "oonfirms the United .States Government's, announcement of a,.forty-dollar freight for ' New-Zealand. This rate; however, i»i i limited to tonnage controlled by the United States Government. -. The Brit- | :isli Government control a very largo' part of, tonnage, and they' havo not yet announced any.reduction from"the present rate of 6ixty dollars."--A'later • advice from the same firm s states:—"M r e . are how in receipt, of ft ■ further cablegram from; New York; under date 9th iiist., advifing ' tliat thu British Government is meeting ' tho United'; Slates' Government's rates ,by quoting freight rato'of 40100 dollars '(per .ton," measurement), and 37.50 dollars (per ton, deadweight, by, the steamer.
