MEETING. OF COUNCIL. A meeting of the iljakaira County Coun.cil .was. held yesterdojy. The reappointment of a chairman was a departure
from the precedent followed' by the i council. Previously the rule has been that (the chairmanship is held in rotation by the members in order of serii- ] ority. Members of «the council* in complimenting the chairman on his reappointment* made ieference to the excellent work he had done as chairman,' tvnd said also that he was eminently the mo.=t suitable member to, carry on . the duties of the' office. It was suggested, too, that the custo/n'.of allowing the chairmanship to go round! was rather , out of .date. ; . ' ■ The ordinary business of She council was'resumed'at the ordinary .meeting. ■ Councillor Windley made a report to the.'meriting about'the recomnaondalions of a meeting of ratepayers at" Porirua. A resolution had been passed' at that meeting to the effect'that the time had arrived when the council should consider without -delay the purchase of a stonecrushing plant, as the old system of' road-maintenance was out 'of -date. The council .decifled to empower the clerk to obtain, paT/ticulars of the crushing plant .offered i[o tho council by Mr. P. G. Matte, and also about any other plants that' might ■be obtainable. The action of thle chairman in granting the-use of the -road reserve at Newlands for the purpose of erecting a soldiers'. memorial w.' 15 approved. . -The council decided to sujpport tho demand of the A! fexandra Council tha the. Government should take control o 'f incurable tubercn l iosis patients, and B0 safeguard the hea ith of the commu ji'ity,which was endar/gercd 'by the sending of such patients i jito favourably-situated country districts.; ' The clerk was /appointed in/pectar of buildings at a rt /auumeration <jf the fees • received. • j . . ,-
