' .By Toleffraph—Press Association Ctiristchurch, January 10. The unsettled Weather during the /week has not been conducive to the bringing on of-the harvest. -'A.warn) spell would be welcome.! The harvest generally will be late, and so fur only a few early crops of Algerian oats have been cut. Grain crops generally are looking well. Yields should be quito rqual to those of 1915, if not better. No business is yet reported ; ill' the new season's grain, a line of between two and three "thousand bushels of. Algerian oats was put on offer at ss. 2d. at' country stations. but this figure was considered above the market value". During the week a quantity of old season's chaff has been shipped to northern markets, and -there is now practically-'no fresh inquiries. No' new chaff nas yet come on tlio market. There is some movement in ryegrass. In view of .' a probable, short crop of perennial rye this season a large line of last season's southern .seed has changed hands between merchants. A line of new stripped seed, bright and heavy, lias ' been/. purchased at 4s. at country stations..lt is anticipated l - that ther» will'be a fair crop of Italian ryegrass.- .Some business has been done with Melbourne in '.last season's cocksfoot. Potato crops lire still promising well, and are free from disease. Beyond retail trade in early varieties there is no business, yet reported in the new orop.
