An ox-tramwny employee named Arthur Alexander Heftier, 22.years of age, a native nf Australia, appeared before Mr. F. V. Frazer, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court yesterday, charged with having obtained from the "Wellington City Corparation Tramways Department on ot about December 27 the sum of is. 3d. by' means of a false pretence, with intent to defraud.

On the application of Chief Detective Boddam -accused was remanded until January 15. .

Accused asked that bail be granted, and that it ho made light, as he might have difficulty in obtaining a large sum. Bail was allowed in the sum of .£25, one surety of- .£25.
