In response to the appeal on behalf of King George's Fund for Sailors, made, by H.R.H. the Duke of Connaught (tho chairman) to India, the Dominions, and. the Crown colonies, a generous gift of\ . .€5621 has been received, through the See-' retary of Slate for the Colonies, from:, Barbndos. In" liis letter "accompanying the gift, the Officer Administering, the; ' Government of Barbados, said:— ."Throughout the period of collection, an earnest desire was displayed to contribute, towards the benefit of men of the Royal Navy and ■ the mercantile- marine. , Genuine recognition also has been pener- .. ally expressed throughout the island that ' it Is to these two services alone that this colony has owed, since tho outbreak ! of ' war, its. immunity from enemy attacS.. its supnlies of foodstuffs and essential, I commodities, which hare saved us front ■ ■; shortage, of food.-ami,enables ' trade to, >. ■ continue, and its prosperity." A representative.committee was formed in the colony, whp.-in snbmitKnp their •• report, said "that they recowised tliafl ; -' Barbados.i in common with the Einnire, ..-,■ a debt to the Roynl Navy and its auxiliaries, the Roval Marine? and the, ) , meHmnt sorvice" which can never be re* paid."
