BATHERS IN DISTRESS
GOOD EESCUE AT TITAHI BAY. On Sunday afternoon some venturesome swimmers at Titahi Say met with an exciting experience. . A motor J bus driver and two soldiers, all residents of Johnsonville, swam out to sea beyond the line of the breaking surf, and suddenly found themselves caught in iv tide-rip- against which they could not swim back to shore. Mr. ]?, T. Moore, who happened to lie strolling along the bay, was startled by a call from the sea, from one of his motor 'bus drivers to send a boat quickly. He ran to the boat sheds calling for help. A dingy belonging to a motor launch owned by Mr. E. Johnston, of Wellington, was speedily launched, and 6culled to the rescue. A spectator who was a remarkably clever swimmer, and who missed the rescuing boat, pluckily plunged, fully clad, into the rough water, and, swim•iniug against the strong wind, encouraged the men in distress to keep afloat. The motor 'bus driver also courageously ordered the boat to Tescue. the returned soldiers first and leave him till the last.
