Mr. Lloyd George, in an interview, Baid he was surprised at the sweeping Coalition victory and the greatness of the majorities. Mr. J. H. Roberts (Labour Minister) was elected for Norwich.
Mr. do Valera was nominated for four teats f?e was returned unopposed for Last Clare, but was beaten for South Down and the Falls Division of Belfast, while for East Mayo he polled 8075 (?) against Mr. Dillon's 4519. Two Coalition Unionists and one Coalition Liberal have been elected for the Combined Scottish Universities. The Kensington contest is postponed.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Aesn.
COMMENT ON THE RESULT (Rec. December JO, 7.55 p.m.) London, December 29. Mr. Asquith's defeat caused a great sensation. It is explained by the Liberals that tho enlarged constituency in East Fife includes a substantial Conservative element, which hitherto has not had an opportunity of voting against tho ex-Premier. Nevertheless the result emphasises tho tremendoua sweep of the Coalition tide— Renter. Ml? JOHN DILLON'S COMMENT. London, December 29.
