HURRICANE AT HAWAII
HOUSES BLOWN DOWN AND TREES UPROOTED. By Telegraph-Press Association Auckland, December 30. Passengers by the bring news of a hurricane- whicli swept over the Hawaiian Group some days before the, vessel called at Honolulu. The town of Honolulu itself was not damaged to any great extent as far as can be gathered, but some of the surrounding districts of the island of Onlvu, on which the capital is situated, suffered, severely. Apparently the hurricane swent with its full force up the Mauoa. Vallev nt the back of the town, uprooting trees in its path and carrying off the roofs of many houses In some instance? the houses themselves were blown down with the force of the atmophcric disturbance, ann extreme damage was done. When the Niagara called there about six davs later the people were still enrwged in clearing away trees that had been torn up by the roots and thrown across the road^ The vessel it-self encountered what was npnnrentlv tin? tail end of fl><> hurricane, between Victoria and Honolulu. She was considerably tossed about.
