SHIELD CRICKET

TllE MATCH IN CHRISTCHURCH WELLINGTON'S GOOD SHOWING (By Press Association.) Christchurch, December 26. The Canterbury-Wellington representative cricket match was resumed, today in beautifully fine lveathef. The wicket wore fairly well. Wellington by a. very solid display of batting got the lead 'Dy 121 runs on the first innings. A iine partnership by Gray and Jones in Canterbury's second -innings added 1-0 for the sixth wicket, and gave the southerners still a fighting chance, for. Weilington, Lambert gave a capital display of stylish and forceful batting for 51. C'ondlifie's 46 was a much more laboured effort, but it was exceedingly sound. Patrick bowled very well for Canterbury. Canterbury's batting in the second innings was a curious mixture more is no doubt that Briee and Hiddleston both bowled very well, the formers last deliveries ou The fiery, wicket worrying the batsmen considerably, but they were tiring, and some solid batting 'by Jones fold Grav left Briee with half Ins pace and Hiddleston with very little sting. Gray was not too confident at first, bat after a few overs he played the bowling with patience and correctness, and Jones cave a sound exhibition ot batting, plajing an excellent innings. Bnce was certainly the best bowler on the W elliugtott side to-day, and until he tired the batsmen could do nothing ;™th him liivton's fielding, as 111 the fust innings, was first class. Canterbury's fielding was ragged, and compared most unlavouiably with Wellington's work in this depai nient'. The scoring is:
