MIRAMAR BOROUGH COUNCIL

A meeting of the Miramar Borough Council was bold lust evening. The'De-puty-Mayor (Councillor Underwood) presided. A letter was.received from the Auckland City Council in reference to the powers of boroughs unden> the Public Health Act. Such powers were larje, , but they were ■ subject to the paramountcy of the Public Health Department. The dual control was a handicap. The Auckland Council sought the increase of the powers of local bodies in reference to dwellings. The co-opera-tion of the borough was sought. Councillors agreed that internal arrangements in dwellings and buildings should be under some supervision, but urged that the greatest care should be exercised in administration of the suggested, legislation. Men of superhuman tact were required to carry out the work of inspecting interiors of private houses; otherwise (here whs danger of abuse. It was decided to support the Auckland request. A request from the Catholic . Federation for use of Seatoun Park on Boxing Dav was trrnnted. on condition that borough ratepayers- be admitted free. The Deputy-Mayor mad? some reference to the epidemic, and congratulated the borough on its prompt steps in combating the scourge. Everyone .lukU worked hard, and deserved credit for the speedy return to normality.
