The police report stated that all hotels in the Wellington district had been well conducted during the njist quarter, with the exception ot the Caledonian Hotei, the conduct of which was declared to be unsatisfactory. A considerable amount of drunkenness had been noticed in nnd about the premises. An unfavourable .report in regard to this hotel was mndo last quarter, and the licensee was warned by the committee, but the warning had not proved effective.- The licensee was convicted and fined for sellin" liquor after hours on May 17 last, and there were two further charges of broaches of the Licensing Act pending, but owing to the epidemic the charges could not be heard before the date of the meeting. In addition, the report stated that the general conduct of tho hotel was bad. As leportod ,at the last meeting of the committee a drunken fracas had occurred in August last between the military and licensee's son and others. . •

The chairman said that the report was altogether satisfactory with the exception of the references to the Caledonian Hotel.- Arrangeinents, liowever, had since'been made for the transfer of the license to another person, and an all round improvement in conditions would no doubt result.
