RETAIL FIRM'S PROTEST.
A AVellin'gton retail firm of fruiterers indicates an anomalous position which has arisen in Wellington through the Government hiwinjf fixed the , price of lemons nt 2Jd. each wholesale and 3d. retnil. Our" informant says that the action of the Government was quite in order, when the fruit was scarce ami in active demand, but the condition* have been altered, firstly by Hie abatement of tho epidemic in Wellington, and secondly by the fact that a largo shipment of American lemons has come to hand. The latter have ircvc-r Hitherto been sold in Wellington.for more than ,E2 10s. per ease, but owing to the Oovcrmnent'e find price (slill in force) TO tailers arc being charged X.) 15b. per case'(ft prico tho Government itself ie paying), when if the fixed prices ware abandoned, the eost to wta.lors ami consequently to the public, would be very greatly, reduced.
