HISTORIC GROUND

THE FUTURE OF ANZAC,

The question of the future control of Gallipoli was referred to in the House of Representatives yesterday. Mr. T. A. H. Field (Nelson) asked the Prime Minister whether the question of access to and control of the shores and hills at Anwic and Gallipoli, which the blood of iier sons has made sacred ground to New Zealand, lias been considered by tho War Council in the event of peace being made by Turkey. '

The Right Hon. W. F. Massey (Prime Minister) replied: I am now at liberty to state that the matter referred to .jn Hie honourable member's question was discussed at the Imperial War Conference in Will, and on my motion an amendment was agreed to by which it was arranged that the question should be submitted to the Peace' Conference, with a.view to having that part of the Gallipoli Peninsula where our soldiers so conspicuously distinguished themselves, and where so manv of our brave boys are buried, placed under the control of the British Government in order that the graves may be properly taken care of and young trees from Australia and New Zealand planted, so that for all time the soil may be sacred to the people of the British race, and especially to the British Dominions in the South Pacific.
