THE BANKS RE-OPEN
A BUSY DAY. After closing down, altogether for _ a meek the banks in Wellington, and indeed throughout New Zealand, reopened their doors at 10 a.m. yesterday, when a very busy day's work was recorded. Most'of tho'banks had taken the precaution to deal with their big business behind closed doors on Tuesday, but nevertheless there was a steady rush ot business throughout, the banking hours, and the tellers, in full strength, bad a strenuous time endeavouring to keep apace witli the .requirements of clients. In the main office of the Bank of New Zealand seven tellers were kept hard at it the day through, and there was never a, time when there was not a little crowd of people before encli of tlieiu. lhe opinion among bankers was that it was a wise, step to close for the week, as it gave the convalescents a good chance to recover, and gave those who had held out a timely rest. The result was that there were few absentees from duty yesterday.
