"THE GONDOIiIERS." The deliehtful performances of "Tho Gondoliors that arc being Riven by the Wolliiißton Amateur Operatio Society are ono of tho topics of tho hour. The amateur Btandard has been raised considerably by this performance, and it is now quite evident that wo have the talent in Wellington for tho adequate performance of all tho works of Gilbert and Sullivan. It is pretty certain that these works would bo performed more frequently were not the conditions made so difficult, lho present cast is fitted. nicely, both in personality and physique to every demand made. Miss Bathie Stuart makes an alluring Tessa; Miss Helen Gardner a captivating Gianetta; and Messrs. F. Twiss and H. P. Wood play well togother as Guiseppe and Marco. Miss Dorothy Cameron ae Casilda has only one weakness-a predeliction to over-sustain hor high notes in tho two beautiful duets she has with Luiz. Her voice is strong, musical, and "alivo," but she is apt to lose the rythinical charm of Sullivan by tho easilyremedied fault mentioned. Mrs. Stuart Dallas is admirable as the Duchess and Mr. Zante Wood as the Duke, outs up a performance which commands general admiration. Hie bumptious egotiera and studied manner of speech and gait are to tho manner born. Mr. T. Forrest is also effective in an eccentric sense as the Grand Inquisitor. The booking is very heavy for the remainder of the season. On the request of Mesdames W, F. Massey and J. l>. Luko the society has consented to give a special matijjoe performance on Saturday afternoon in aid of the funds of the Returned Solders Club appeal. As tho booking for Friday and Saturday evening is very heavy many will doubtless be glad to hear of the extra performance arranged, particularly those residing in the euburbs. For this performance Mr. Bert. Boyle hae forgone the royalty on tho opera.
