C 1 RESERVISTS
MARRIED MEN NOT REQUIRED.
An official memorandum ' issued on Saturday deals with the position of reservists who have been classed Cl.' The question of suspending, for the time being, the calling up of further Second Division reservists for physical training in tho CI Camp has been under consideration lately by the Defence authorities, says the memorandum, and it has now been decided to place Second Division CI reservists on leave without pay until further orders. This decision will not affect men who have already concentrated and who are now undergoing training in camp. Second Division reservists, however,, who are under orders to parado with the November and subsequent drafts will not now be required to concentrate. It is to be clearly/understood, of course, iliat these reserv.sts are liable to be called up to undergo trainjug should tho course of events in the future necessitate such action. "The present satisfactory position of affairs at the front," states tlio Minister of Defence, "warrants me in expressing tho hope that this contingency is somewhat remote, but should it unfortunately prove necessary to call theso men up again tjiey will be allotted the . usual three months in which to arrange their affairs before proceeding to camp. It is quite possible that some Second Division CI reservists may wish to enter the special training camp in the hope that the physical, training there may fit them for service with the Expeditionary Force abroad. No obstacle will bo placed in tho way of any Second Division CI men proceeding to camp if he so desires." Thero will bo no alteration in the present practice as far as'the First Division reservists arc concerned. Those men who are classed as CI, either by the ordinary District Medical Board when called in the ballot or by tho Special C 2 Re-examuia-tion Board, will be sent to the CI Camp for training in duo course. At the present time there are some 1310 First Division reservists awaiting re-ex-amination by the Special C 2 Re-examma-tion Board during its present itinerary, which terminates at Invercargill about November 23. There are also approximately 3000 First Division reservists to be re-examined by the C 2 Board during its fourth itinerary, which will commenco early in tho New Year. Theso examination's in the past have produced about 16 per cent, of fit A men, and about 33 per cent, of CI men, and it is anticipated that the. re-examinations which have still to take place will produce the same percentage of men in each category.
