SALVATION ARMY

SELF-DENIAL AND RED JERSEY APPEALS '

ANOTHER DOMINION RECORD

Once agaih the Salvation Army's SelfDenial effort has established « record, and as announced by Commissioner Hodder in a very interesting meeting at the Citadel last' night has exceeded last year's splendid total by over ,£ll,ooo— this year resulting in J!50,001 15s. 3d. This is the more creditable to the Dominion, seeing that another Salvation Army appeal—tlitf lied Jersey War Fund —had just been closed and had resulted in some .£102,285 7s. .id. being raised forthe Army's war work. For many years the New "Zealand total for the Solf-Denial Fund has been in advance of any country in proportion to population. Australia holding second place, but New Zealand still possesses the chnmDion for the world. Gisborne, with the fine total of •£5600, holds the record for a single district. .

The meeting held in connection with this declaration wns of an interesting character, the Citadel beine specially arranged to allow of tableaux representin" various phases of the Salvation Army's work in every sphere of. its operations. Musical items' were rendered also. Following are N the leadins totals for both the above-mentioned appeals:—
