A Press Association telegram from Oaniaru announces the death of Mr. «»- liam Waddelf. an ex-Mayor of tho town. The late Mr., Waddell was prominent in bowling circles. Mr F. H. Levien, who was recently appointed Stipendiary Magistrate in the TV Kniti district, left for the north by the Main Trunk train yesterday.

Captain H. A. Elluigham, who was iecently awarded the Military Cross, is the eldest son of Mr. H. T. M*«* °* Te Ata Horoeka, and an old Wellington College boy. Ho left the Dominion as IMi and O.C. H Coy New Zealand Rifles, Thirteenth Reinforcements. In January, M 7. was admitted to hospital suffering from shell shock. He recently returned to the firing-line, and was again wounded on August; 28, but remained with his unit until the-work that was allotted to him w;asaccomplished It was reported yesterday that he had a«ain been wounded, and had been admitted to hospital in England. Captain T. C. A. Hislop (son-of the Hon T. W. Hislop,. of Wellington) is now" in hospital in England, suftering from a slight gunshot wound in the leg. He was also wounded last year, and was laid up for a considerable time. Returning to duty, he was sent to Derriilgton Camp, where ha assisted in preparing men to go across to the Western front. On August 28 last he went to France again, and on October 13 he was wounded. Before he enlisted he was a member of tho Wellington City Council.

Advice has been received by Base Records by cablegram from London that Corporal G. Wade, a New Zealander, at present attached to the Royal Garrison Artillery, has been awarded the Military Medal for gallantry in the field of action. As this soldier is not a member of the N.Z.E.F., his next-of-kin is not known to Base Records.

Sergeant Percy J. S. 'Lowe (killed in action in France) was the eldest son of Mr. John P. Lowe, of Riccarton. He was twenty-six years of age, married, with two children. Prior to enlisting with the Seventeenth Reinforcements he was in tho employ of Messrs. Sargood, Son, and Bwen. He was on the Headquarters Staff at Trentham for six months, and left with the Twenty-second Reinforcements. ' On arrival in England he was attached to Headquarters, Sling Camp, and crossed to France in February last.

News has been received of the death in action at tho front of Lieutenant Erasmus Baxter, who was • manager for the Guardian Assurance Company at Napier. Ho leaves a widow and a two-year-old daughter, whom he never. 6aw.

Mr. Philip Bennett, shop manager for Messrs. Thomas Ballinger and Co., Victoria Street, received cable advice yesterday that his only son, Driver John Bennett, of the New.Zealand Artillery, had been killed in action. Driver Bennett was formerly a member of the staff of tho Union Bank of Australia. Ho was well known and respected in Wellington and Seatomi (where his parents reside), and was a good nil-round athlete.

Mr. H. C. Gibbons and Mr. J. B. Teasdale left yesterday by the Mapounka for Nelson for a tour of tho West Coast and Southern Lakes.

Mr. R. P. Hudson, M.P., and Mrs. Hudson hto staying at "Pendenms, Burnell Avenue, for the period of the session. TJio Prime Miniver (Br. Hon. W. F. Mossey) and Sir Joseph Ward are-to be the guests of honour at tho New Zealand Club's luncheon to be held at the Marble Bar, Willis Street, at 1 p.m. to-morrow.

Mr. B. Nolan, of Broadway Terraco, has been advised that his second son, Private R, J. Nolan, has sbeen wounded in France. Leaving New' Zealand. with the Thirty-sixth Reinforcements, he was on arrival in England transferred to tho New Zealand Rifle Brigai;. His eldest brother, Sergeant Nolan, is also m hospital in London suffering from wounds received last month.

Gunner H. G. Scott, who has died of wounds in France, was educated at Roseneatli School, and was a member of the D Battery before enlisting. For some years he was prominent in yachting circles. He was the son of Mr. G. B. Scott, representative of Messrs. John Duthie and Co., Ltd., in tho Manawatu district.

Second Lieutonant Joseph M'Govern, killed in Action, was tho fourth son of Mrs. M'Govern and the late Mr. J. P. M'Govern, of Pukokohe. Ho weri to Samoa with the Third Auckland Regiment, and upon his return joined the Eighth Reinforcements, going nwny as quartermaster-sergeant. Alter much service in Egypt and France he was recommended for a commission, and after training in England returned to Now Zealand in January lost as second lieutenant. He was posted to tho ThirtySeventh Reinforcements, and left New Zealand in May last in charge of B Company. Tho lute officer was twenty-four years of age, and at the tiino of his enlistment was employed in the Public Trust Office, Auckland. Ho was educated at tho Pukekoho Convent School, Pukekoho District High School, and the Auckland Grammar School. A brother has been on service with tho Australian Imperial Forces for the last three years, end another brother is Mr. P. J. M'Govern, of tho head, office cf the Railway Department.

News lias been received that Flight-' Lieutenant Lowell Yerex, third son' of Mr. G. M. Yerex, formerly of Wellington, and brother of Captain Yerex (who arrived back in New Zealand last week), has been reported as missing- mid believed to be killed. Lieutenant Yerex was studying at an American university when America went into the \var, and ho at once enlisted and qualified as an aviator. He was a nephew of ltf.~C. 'ST. Luke, of this city.
