AGREEMENT ARRIVED AT TO BE SUBMITTED TO COUNCIL! AND UNION. The conference between representatives of the Wellington City Corporation (Messrs, W. H. Morton, M. Cable, and T). M'Gillvray) and the Wellington . ,-amway Employees' Union (represented by Messrs. J. Hutchison. Hogg, and Handcock) was resumed before the Conciliation Commissioner (Mr. W. Newtown) on Saturday morning: After I 'considerable discussion the conference came to an agreement, the terms of which cannot be made public until they are submitted to and approved of by the City Council on the one side and the employees' union on the other. The only item that can be mada public is that if the agreement is accepted by the bodies concerned it will have effect from October 4, 1918, to October 3, 1919, In the meantime the trani3 are to run to schedule time.
At .the close of the conference Mr. J. Hutchison moved, and Mr. W. H. Morton seconded, a ■ resolution of thanks and appreciation for the able and impartial manner i Mr. Newton had presided over the conference. In reply tho Commissioner congratulated, the parties pn having arrived at a settlement of the dispute, and upon the way in which both sides had conducted their case in a matter that had caused a good deal of inconvenience to the Wellington public. The Wellington City Corporation had a very good record in regard to its relations with its employees, and had invariably been able to come to an agreement in respect to wages and conditions. Ho hoped that if the terms of the agreement arrived at were accepted bv the bodies concerned,' that they would bo loyally adhered to during the next twelve months.
