FAILING TO ACCOUNT FOR MONEYS
ACCUSED COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE. Before Sir. AY. G. lliddell, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court on. AVednesday a man named Torben Alfred Richter "was charged that between Juno 26 and Angust 17,1918, at Jlnßtcrton, having received divers sums amounting to £2-1 on terms requiring him to account for sanio to Early Bros., ho (lid fiaudulontlv omit to'nocounfc for same, thereby committing theft. Chief-Detective' Boddam prosecuted. AVilliam Maynavd' Early, managing director of Early Bros., Ltd., I'oathcr'ston Street, said the accused was in the employ of the linn. In June in consequence of something witness hoard lie sent :i lcUor to the accused offering to supply liiui with a .number of lamps. Richtor had accepted the terms, and later the lamps and lanterns were sent to Masterton. f l he accused was practically the agent of the iirm, for ho was to sell tbo lamps, and remit the proceeds to the linn. Several letters wero sent to Richter demanding .payment of moneys received. In August, witness received a telegram from accused in which he slated he was posting a cheque for ;£-•! odd. The cheque was nob received by the firm. TJp to the present no money had been received Ifrom the accused on account of the sale of the lamps. Accused when asked to plead admitted his guilt, and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
