FATAL ACCIDENT
AT BUILDING ; .IN CABLI) STREET.
Early yesterday afternoon, a fatal accident occurred at a building in/course "of.erection.in Cable. Street. The;vic.tini was a mail named. Patrick Kyan, who was employed as a bricklayer's labourer by, Messrs. 'Mitchell and King,, contractors. He was 74 years' of age, .'married, and resided at 127 Hanson Street. , ;.- ' - .. , ~.- .'-.- ■Shortly before the mishap, the deceased was handling, some iron,, wbich 'he apparently, intended to carry to the first floor of the building. Suddenly,-,* loud crash was beard; and on one-ot ■the workmen going .to- mwistigatc. the cause Ryan was' found, lying ,on;_ tne concreto floor with a severe wound on the back of his head. Dr. Pollen was summoned, but upon arrival ho could only pronounce life: tprbe extinct. .j\o one actually witnessed the fatality, audit is presumed that the deceased slipped on tho rungs of a ladder and fell a/distance of about 15 feet, fracturing his skull.
