THE MOTHER COUNTRY'S PART IN THE WAR
A MESSAGE FOR THE OVERSEAS EDITORS.' (Roc. September 19, 7.45 p.m.) . London, September 18. At tho Australian and Now-Zealand Club's luncheon to tho overseas Press delegation, Mr. W. M. Hughes (Austra/Han Prime Minister) declared that if to-day Amiens and Paris were not held or threatened by the enemy it was due to tho heroism and clan of the Dominion troops. Ho; believed that wo could, whenever called upon, pierce the Hindenburg line. Hβ commended Mr. BalfouFs and President Wilson's replies to Austria's Peace Note. Lord Boaverbrook, in proposing the toast of tho guests, said he hoped to tell them, and through them the people, of Britain's part in the war. Sho had contributed more men by percentage than any of tho Dominions. Britain herself could not claim recognition for what sho was doing, and in this way perhaps the doings of the Dominions appeared to eclipse those of the Motherland. He hoped their visitors would be able to put things in their right perspective, if there woro any misconceptions on the point. Mr. R. M. Hackett (Auckland "Star"), replying, referred to the generosity of the British people in giving every credit to tho Dominions and taking little themselves. There was no direct misconception overseas about Britain « part. The cabled news kept them well informed of the magnitude of Britain » effort.—Router.
