ONSLOW AND WELLINGTON
AMALGAMATION MATTERS IN TRAIN. lii view of what said at the meet* mg of the Onslow_ Borough Comicil on Wednesday everting upon the subject of amalgamation with tho city, it would appear that-some members of the council were hnrdly in touch with the real position. This was given to a Dominion reporter, yesterday by tho Mayor of Wellington (Mr. J. P. Luke), who said that amalgamation with Onslow Borough-was not contingent upon other adjacent boroughs coming in at the same time. That had only been suggested as a possibility—perhaps a desirable possibility—because those boroughs —Karori and Mirawar —had also been discussing the question, avd the idea was put forward so as to make one job of it, instead of having a good deal of tho work to do over again as the other boroughs join up with the city. There was (nothing to, prevent Onslow joining up with the city subject to satisfactory arrangements-being made, and to that end Mpssrs. J. Ames, (City Valuer) and C. Collins (City Treasurer) were- making inquiries and gathering information with tho view of furnishing the City Council a full .report on the affairs of the Onslow Borouah. He gave a full assurance that the matter was not being lost sight of, and providine everything was in order, Onslow would be amalgamated 'with tho city prior to the end of tho present municipal year. Everything was now in train, and the matter would be submitted to the City Courcil as soon as possible after the report of the corporation officials was received, which, he thoupht, would be before tho Christmas holidays.
