ITALIAN RED CROSS

N MARKET AND STREET DAY, » The Italian market at the Town Hall will be opened at 11 o'clock this morning by the Countess of Liverpool, and business will at once conimeiic. ,, . Judged by the preparations which were being mado yesterday, tho hail will present a bright appearance. Stalls were being erected beneath the galleries en each side, while, at the end or' the hall commodious , tea rooms were- being .arranged behind a fern-covered trellis. The decorations in the national colours of Italy, which were- carried on.1; for tho mask ball by the D.I.C. staff, as their share towards helping the appeal, have been left in the hall. Blending well with tho individual stall adornments, these canopies nnd streamers and flags make a brilliant setting for to-day's doings. A feature which is attracting inuch attention is the war baby show, in which there will be four sections, with prizes arranged accordingly. Dr. PlattsMills will be the judge, and her decision will be final. The children must be in their place.-! by 3 o'clock, and prams and go-carts are to be left out side tho half. Yesterday's sudden icy squalls from the south-west- o.i'ised some apprehension concerning the results of the fishins: of the Conk Straits Italian fishermen,' who had undertaken to provide abundant fish for the market aiid for m]o at tho waterside at 6 o'clock this morning. Weatherwiso folk, however, declared that tho blow would not hinder the fishing, and aninle supplies are expected to be available to-day. To-morrow is to be a street- day— the final day of the appeal—when stalls will bo erected at busy places of the city for the sale of flnwers nnd badges. For the sake of the Italian troops who face the barbarians on the Italian frontier, it is hoped that every Wellington citizen will buy a badge and wear it to-morrow.
