INTENSE ACTIVITY ON BRITISH FRONT. (Rec. September IQ, 0.30 a.m.) ' ; London, September 17. Sir Douglas Haic'.s aviation report states:—"There- was great aerial activity along tbo whole of the British front on September 16. Despite strong opposition wo took a record number of photographs. Our aeroplanes unci balloons reported much damage ' ,l tli 0 hostile battery positions, and many explosions and fires worn caused by our artillery fire. We. dropped twentyfour tons of bombs during the day and fifteen tons at night an aerodromes, railheads,. and dumps, intense all-day fighting and combats occurred at u considerable distance eastward of tbo lines. Wo brought down forty-live bostile machines..of which seven were brought down in one light by one of out squadrons. Wo drove down twenty others out of control.
