ANNUAL MEETING. Tho fifty-second annual report, to bo presented at tbe annual meeting of the Star Boating Club, states that for tho first time since the end of the 390940 season the club's year has ended with a credit balance, the amount being £23 Is "2d. Considering that a debit balance of £34 10s. lid. was carried forward from tho past season, and that debentures to the oxterft, of £30 bavc boon Redeemed, this is viewed with satisfaction. At the last annual meeting Mr. H. W. Cooper, who joined tho club in 1897, was unanimously elected a life p.ctive member. During the year fiftytwo now r members were elected, nearly all of whom were under military age. Members welcomed back from tho front include Messrs. C. B. Bridge, J. A. Biss, A. J. Cross, S. G. Cowles, B. Drake, V. Haughton, J. D. Harper, P. V. Hackworth, C. E. Holmes, T. Holmden, A. C. Hacon, F. G. Hume, G. F. Johnston, J. D. Laing, W. Kirker, J. A. M'Leod, C. C. Miles, F. S. Moorhouse, P. C. Muir, W. J. O'Mcara, end G. G. Wallace., Best wishes for a speedy recovery are extended to lliose still undergoing hospital treatment, and Jor a safe roturn to those again t'bout to proceed, and those who still are on active service. The addition of the rieiv young memberships caused a revival iii the club's' aliairs generally. Although a somewhat late start was made, ifour events were competed for—tub pairs, trial fours, junior double sculls, and junior sculls. Owing to the Christmas holidays intervening and; the illness ana transfer of some of the competitors, the first event was never satisfactorily concluded. Tho others provided gtod racing, and some finishes as exciting as ever witnessed. An invitation is yiven to older members who can mnivige it to assist in coaching, and to help tlia .younger members generally. No jnterclub events wore held, nor any local 'regatta. The liability under the heading (if debentures has heen reduced from £!>6o to £230. Tho best thanks of the, club | am extended to Mesdames Itoyfield, Giilyin, .mill Widdop for their willing assistance at club social functions. The. ecininittee is very pleas.ed with the manner in which Mr. Jansen has enrried out his duties as caretaker. His sportsmanlike action in declining to accept payment while the bulk "of tho club's members are on active service is much appreciated. Some 110 incink'i's have served in His Majesty's forces overseas to date, of whom 21) have mado the supreme sacrifice. Already iil'ty photoglyphs of soldier-members' have been fr<nm<;! and hung in the club house, and it is the committee's wish Id have there the photographs of all those on the roll of honour. ■When .Mr. George Jietiiuui, died the late Mr.'A. 8. Biss siiccoeded him in the captaincy, and the j club Inis sustained ;i groat loss through the hitter's death. A member fiir thirty-eight years, he ever worked j tiidessly in the club's interests. Mr. I Hiss successfully represented the club ] «t niiiiiy regattas, and was a stylish ] oarsman, and sculler. At the New Zialand championship regatta held at ■\Vaiu!iiniii in the 1890-91 season, he, with Mr. ,1. fl. Duncan, secured (Inchunipion double sculls for the chili In more recent years lie was renowned for hi.s coaching ability.
