£10,000 FOE. THE COPPER TRAIL. The, generosity of the Wairarapa in tlio matter of patriotic funds, has won admiration in tho past, and_ the district lias demonstrated that it is still prepared to do big things -when the need arises. Wairarapa's latest is n promise of £10,000 for tho copper trail, following an address by the Hon. T. JI. Wilford. Mr. Wilford received an invitation from the Red Cross ladies in Mastertpn asking him to attend their qnarterly meeting and address them on Hod Cross aims and objects. Mr. Wilford consented, and yesterday made' the trip to tho Wairarapa, and on behalf of tho copper trail addressed the Rod Cross and delegates of the Patriotic Society. There was a big attendance in both cases. At tho close of liis address to the Patriotic Society delegates Mr. Wilford retired and Sir Walter Buchanan remarked to the meeting that they had listened to. one of the most stirring appeals that could be made to any body of men. Subsequently it was intimated to Mr. Wilford that the meeting bad decided to hand over at once to tho Hod Cross ladies £10,000 for the copper trail'in Wellington. It is stated that the donation, magnificent as it undoubtedly is, may go °even farther, as certain well-known residents of the Wairarapa have enthusiastically set about to raise another £10,000.
