RULES FOR MATCH WITH AUCKLAND. A meeting of the management committee of the Wellington Rugby Union was held last niglit, when there were present: Mr. D. D. AVeir (in the chair), Messrs. A. C. Kitto, A. Griffiths, R. J. M'llraith, W. Donovan, W. W. Cook, J. Lundonj and T. Tones (secretary). The question of playing the return Auckland-Wellington match under tho rules adopted. by. the Auckland Union was discussed, and it was resolved to rescin3 the motion deciding to play the game under the amended rules, but to request the New Zealand Union for permission to play the match under the amended rules as an experiment.
1 request that a member of the Athletic Club, who was suspended for threa playing Saturdays, be allowed to play in the third class cup final, waS dedined. On the application of the Athletic Club, the committee decidedto classify 6. Heby, a returned soldier, as a senior player. Permission was granted to the Ladies' Hockey Association to play the matches Poverty Bay v. Manawatu and Canterbury v. Wellington as "curtain-rais-ers" to tho Auckland-Wellington match at the Athletic Park on Saturday., September 7.
CANTERBURY V. WELLINGTON. ' Following is the team selected to. represent Wellington in the return match, ivith Canterbury, at the Athletic Park, on Saturday:—Full-back, Scott; threequarters, Porter, Corner, Thomas; five-eighths, _ Tilyard, Morris; half, Nicholls; wing-forward, Bowie; forwards, Alf. Parker, Albert Parker, Troy, Eberhardt, Scott, Tailored, Marks. Emergencies: Thomas and Kins (forwards), Hamilton (back) 4 The Canterbury team will arrive iu Wellington on Friday morning.
WELLINGTON MARISTS v. WANG ANUI MARISTS. About 500 spectators watched the first annual game betwey.i the above teams, and were rewarded by an excellent exhibition of Kug'oy. Wellington kicked off against a slight breeze, and Hogan returned tho ball well down the line. Then Wellington started a rush and took play to the other end of the field, only to be checked by off-sido play. Tuffin found the line, and from the lino-out Corliss scored tho 'firso try, Carroll converting. This was the position when half-timeV came. _On resuming, Wellington took play into the visitors' twenty-five, and from a mark Haydon kicked a neat goal. Davies returned the kick-out well up the field, and Polilen following up fast scored a nice try. Wellington, G; Wanganui, 5. Then Wanganui forwards took charge and put on two tries in quick succession, Tufiin and CoHiss being the scorers, Boylo and Mogan converting: Not to be denied, Wellington stuck to it :nd were rewarded by Moflitt scoring well out. Hayden converted, av.d the score was: Wanganui, 15; Wellington, 11. This was tho score when the finnl whistle blew. Mr. L. Sievers was leferee. The return match will be played at Wanganui oil September 21. The two teams were entertained at the Marist Brothers' School, Tasman Street, on Saturday evening, and taken for a run across tho harbour on Sunday.
