A CANTERBURY EMPLOYERS' RESOLUTION.
By Telegraph—Press Aesociation. Christchurcti, August 27. The following telegram was forwarded to-day by the Canterbury Employers' Association to Sir James Allen and the Hon, AY. D. S. Mac Donald:— "Coal mining dispute: The Canterbury Employers' Association protests against any proposal to set up a Royal Commission with power to override tho provisions of the Arbitratibn Court awards or registered industrial agreements, and suggests that matters such as coal prices and shipping rates should be investigated by the Board of T'rado. We strongly urge that you support the action taken by the Coal Mine Owners' Association. ' AVe would point out the high -wages earned and the short hours worked by the miners. The Government should maintain a strong attitude against the claims made by the Miners' Federation. Wanganul, August 27. A large meeting of importers, manufacturers, and business mom this afternoon passed a resolution unanimously protesting against any proposal to set up a Royal Commission with power to override the provisions of Arbitration Court awards or registered industrial agreements made a few months ago between the coal mine owners and the miners' unions, to remain in force for varying periods up to three years and six months alter the war.

New Plymouth, August 27. The following resolutions were passed by the Taranaki Employers' Association, to be forwarded to tho Acting-Prime Minister, the Minister of Mines, and the member ; of Parliament for Taranaki:—"(a) In connection with the present coal miners' dispute, this branch of the New Zealand Employers' Federation protests against the proposal to sot up a lloyal Commission with power to override tie provisions of Arbitration Court award or industrial agreements; and (b) this association supports the action of the Coal Miners' Association, and in view of the high wages earned and the short hours worked the Government be urged to adopt a firm attitude against the claim of the Miners' Federation."
According to a Press Association telegram received, similar resolutions wore passed by the Hawke's Bay Employers' Association, - and by "a large meeting of importers, manufacturers, and business men" of Wanganui.
