STATEMENT BY MAYOR OF AUCKLAND. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, August 24. A statement as to tho employment by'the Government of superannuated Civil Servants was made yesterday by the Mayor, who said he was in possession of the mimes of five superannuated men who were employed in ono office alone in Auckland. He thought the Government should investigate the matter to ensure that justice was dono to returned soldiers, amongst whom ho believed men suitable for most vacant positions could bo found. He had been informed that a local firm which received applications from sixteen returned soldiers for a position liad given it to a man who had not, been on active service. He considered special consideration should be given to capable returned soldiers who had been wounded or had become impaired in health by reason of their service.
