IMPORTS FROM INDIA
W.\R RESTRICTIONS. The Hon. Arthur Myers, Minister in Charge of Munitions and Supplies, stated .yesterday that advice had been received from the .Government of India' notifying that they had decided to introduce a systorn of priority procedure in regard to exports lrom India of articles on the list of prohibited exports to British possessions. This step lias been taken with a view to conserving supplies in India, and owing to increased demands for direct war purposes.
The Minister further stated that it is observed the Government of India liavo been compelled to this procedure by the same considerations which huve influenced other countries which are directly responsible for the maintenance of largo military forces in the field,
In connection with the priority procedure, it is not i»ssible at the moment to accurately classify the articles that require priority certificates to facilitate their export from India.., and to enumerate them would bo equally difficulty for. individual items are subject to constant change according.to the supply and demand. The Minister stated, however, that in any case of doubt he would recommend interested parties to communicate with their representatives in India 'for advice, and should it then be found that priority certificates would bo helpful his Department would be pleased to take action.
