THE BATTLE ON THE BRITISH FRONT RELENTLESS PRESSURE ON THE ENEMY (llec. August 21, 1.30 a.ia.) London, August 23. Renter's correspondent at British Head-' quarters/ writing on the evening of August 22, saj-s: "Last night we were established along nearly the whole of tho railway between lloyenneville and Beaucourt, except on tho IJiraucourt sector. Wo fell buck in the vicinity of Achiet-le-Grand, whore the enemy had . ■ concentrated. Sharp fighting occurred at Beauregard, between Miraumont and Puis'eux, which finally fell into our possession. None of the "enemy's counter-attacks, pushed with great strength and determination, caused us to give ground. The operation, was launched oil the high ground between Albert and Bray, and was eminently satisfactory. More than a thousand prisoners were taken, totalling with yesterday's fonr thousand. In Flanders we are steadily advancing towards Bailleul. Our success yesterday and to-day entailed quite light casualties."—Reiiter. NO GLOOMY LETTERS HOME INSTRUCTIONS TO GERMAN SOLDIERS. (Rec. Mr. Robinson says:—"Additional captured documents forbid men to write homo pessimistic letters; that it is better to colour them a rosy hue than paint them black. Another draws attention to tho inch's increasing reluctance to attack. "Officers must compel their cowards to go, and sKoot if' necessary." Documents also reveal the fact that the Germans- now use with their machineguns ammunition-belts made from paper."—"The' Times."
