THE SHIPPING OUTLOOK
A HAY OF HOrE. An important statement about Ilia shipping prospects for the export trade of this country was made by tlio Minister in Charge of imperial Supplies (the Hon. D. 11. Guthrie) yesterday. "Up till (lie. end of September," said the Minister, "we shall probably be ablo to clear out of the cold stores between seven and eight, hundred thousand freight carcasses ot meat. This will relieve the situation considerably, and by the end of December it is' Jiopeil that, there wilL b« available for the removal.-of - moris frozen meat 5,800,000 cubic feet of insu-' luted spaeo on outward steamers. Nothing definite can lie said about tile coming year, but the prospects .ire that tlio space available for frozen produce from Australasia will be 2<i,000,000 cubic feet for 'the year. This should mean that New Zealand with its production should! get about half of the, space. If thei=e prospects materialise, we shall be left at the end of next year in ii ver.v lit'tla worse position than that in which we find ourselves* at present."
