By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchiirch, August 20. Business at tho markets has opened quietly since tho holidays. There is no corn coming fonvaid, though thero is good inquiry for oats. The only thing moving is potatoes, and the market lias further advanced, white varieties being now quoted at £8 and Dakota Beds .£8 ss. at country stations. Business is, however, restricted by .the shortage of shipping to the North Island. There is also only a moderate quantity of potatoes offering. Tho scarcity of shipping space •is also preventing the^ getting away to tho north of early varieties of seed potatow, a considerable quantity of which are on hand waiting shipment.
