HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL

The monthly meeting of the Hutt County Counoil was held yesterday. Thore ■were present: Councillors John Whiteman (chairman), P. Cavauagh, W. Galloway, 11.I 1 . G. Cooper, M. \V. Welch, and iW. J. Howell. A report on the new stonecrusher was received, and this gays rise to a very long discission on the morits of the machine. It was decided to instruct the man in charge to obtain the spare parts and accessories required and to report to the counoil each month the number of yards of stone omshed. A deputation from the Horowhenua County Council waited on the council ■with respect to the maintenance of the Ngatiawa Bridge, which is on the boundary of the two counties. It was deoided to inspect the bridge before deciding upon what was to be done. In his monthly report the Inspeotor of Works stated that Letfs Bridge at Pakuratahi had been completed at a total cost of .£4B 195. 5d., or at the rate of £3 ss. l&. per foot. The Public Health Department reported adversely on the state of the Pahautanui School buildings, and it was detided io send a copy of the report to the Pahautanui School Committee, and another io the Education Board. The latter is to be urged to erect a new school. Inspector Lei will, of the Public Health Department, reported ono case of diphtheria at Trentham and two cases at Day's Bay.
