OFFENSIVE LAUNCHED EAST OF AMIENS
BIG HAUL OF PWNERS
ENEMY SURPRISED
GREAT WORK BY THE TANKS
With dramatic unexpectedness and every indication of complete eucces3 the British have-launched a big offensive east of Amiens, and have already advanced five miles into tie enemy's lines, taking thousands of prisoners and many guns. Tho attack was launched after a brief bombardment, and was supported by a large number of tanks, the latter including small fast machines which did most effective work amongst the enemy's defences. From the statements of German prisoners it is gathered that tho blow was very largely a surprise, on certain sectors at least. On the Champagne front the situation has not undergone any material, change. The enemy is fighting very etubbornly to hold the lines of the Vesle. In Russia the situation in the-Munnan coast region has developed a little with the advance southward of the Allied troops which were recently landed on the Mur.iian. coast. ■
