. __ , PAY AND HOURS. After considerable negotiations a complete agreement is announced by tho Conciliation Commissioner (Mr. W. .Newton) in connection with the industrial dispute' between tho City Corporation and tho Tramway Power nouso Employees' Union. Under Iho now agreement wages are fixed as follow:—'Trimmers, Is. 35d. per hour; handymen, Is. -id.; firemen, is. 43d.; firemen (leading), Is. 5d., with bonus of 2s. 6d. each week for water attending; greasers, Is. sd. per hour; and a war bonus of 10 per cent, is provided for during tho currency of the war and for three mouths after. Workers under the, ago of ' twenty-one years may be employed in assisting at. the vnrious classes of work at a minimum wage of Is. per hour. Threepenco per hour in addition to the ordinary rate is provided for. dirt money. Other important clauses are:— Ilouri of Work.—For handymen, 4G hours shall constitute an ordinary week's work and 81 hours an ordinary day's work Firemen, greasers, and trimmers shall work 48 hours per week of seven days, in six shifts of eight hours each. Shifts shall be changed weekly. Overtime.—All time worked in excess of tho. hours provided shall be paid for at the rate of time and a half. Any time worked on Sundays shall bo paid for at the rate of time and a half. For work done on Good Friday and Christmas Day double time shall bo paid. When ■n worker is called back after working his ordinary shift ho shall receive not less than two hours' pay. Men regularly employed on day work after having completed their ordinary day's work shall bo paid overtime for all work done before tho usual starting-time on the following day. Annual Holidays—After ono year's continuous service employees shall be entitled lo receive each year twelve days' holiday on full ordinary pay. In case an employeo entitled to annual holidays leaves before the completion of any year of service he shall be entitled to holidays on the above basis, according to the time served. • The new agreement operates as from June 5 last, and remains in force for two years.
