FATAL MOTOR-CAR ACCIDENT

DRIVER SURRENDERS TO THE POLICE. By Telegraph.—Preen Association. Hawcra, July 25. A sad fatality occurred last evening on the Main South Road, about three-quar-ters of a mile from town. Mr. Thomas Morgan, aged 73, an old and respected resident, was returning about G o'clock from milking his cows, mid was wheeling the milk in a handcart. He was accompanied by a young nephew, who was walking ahead. The lad heard a crash, and, looking round, saw a motorcar zig-zagging across the road. The car had run over Mr. Morgan, who had received terrible injuries. Both legs wero broken, and there was a gash on the head. Ho died a few minutes afterwards. Deceased leaves a widow and grown-up family. He was a well-known veteran, and was present at the recent Turu Tnru-Mokai celebrations. Later. James O'Donnell, a farmer of Innlia, was charged at the Magistrate's Court this afternoon that he did on July unlawfully kill (one Thomas Morgan. Senior Sergeant Till asked for a remand to enable the police to collect, evidence. In reply, to a question by the Magistrate, tile senior sergeant said the accused had surrendered himself to the police, and made a voluntary statement.
