DISLOYAL UTTERANCE
FINE OF JKS IMPOSED. By Telegraph—Press Association. . Auckland, July 22. At the Poiice Court to-day, Adolf Gotlieb Fischer was charged with publishing an utterance indicating disloyally, as follows:—"The British are liars. They lied' in South Africa. The British will never win the war. Germany will never go down. .S\ie will win. 1 say that Ihe firilish would do worse things than Hie Germans, and have done so, but it will nevc-v ho known until after tho war. They are getting what they deserve." Evidence was given to, tho effect that statements and letters similar in tenor were made in a boardinghmiee. Accused said ho was a Swiss, and had Ijieii in the Dominion for '10 years. Ho had eight children, and had always been loyal tc Britain. Two of his sons wore at the front. He denied making tiie statements. He had lived in Germnny from ten years of nge until he \ras fifteen. Hie wife, who had deserted him, was a German. Accused was fined ,£25, the Magistrate, Mr. Hunt, remarking that the case was not so bad as if the utteranco had been made in a public place, such as an hotel.
